Like a flu a virus is designed to harm your computer and has the capability to spread itself. A computer virus contains a malicious code or a program that is designed to change the operation of your computers (Norton, n.d.). In doing so would cause damaging or unexpected effects – destroying or corrupting your personal data (Norton, n.d.).
How does a computer virus work?
The computer virus attaches itself either to a file, program or a document and it will stay invisible and would remain dormant – meaning the virus is hidden (Norton, n.d.). If the user decides to click onto the infect program, the virus will not only infect your computer but as steal data or passwords, corrupt files, damaging hard disk or even affect you on a financial level (Norton, n.d.).
